A New Space For Fisher & Paykel

Explore

A well-loved brand here in New Zealand and beyond, Fisher & Paykel wanted to lead the way in sustainability and innovation with their planned new premises.

But, there would be significant hurdles to overcome to make that happen.

As the new building was planned for their existing site, the old building had to be cleared away first. However, their entire workforce still required a workplace while the building took place.

Enter DGE’s electrical prowess to make all of that happen…

The Challenge

To demolish a building and construct a building without business disruption!

When Haydn & Rollett came to us with its plan to demolish its existing building and construct a new building while keeping its operations fully functional, we knew it was going to be a challenge—but one that we were more than capable of executing well!

From the beginning, the plan was clear: shut off and demolish half of the existing complex infrastructure and high voltage reticulation, such as server rooms, chiller supplies, and offices, and relocate the F&P team so they could continue working within the premises while the project took place, and then fit out an all-new building.

That in itself was complicated enough. However, the added challenges of ensuring the new premises met Green Star standards and that there were no interruptions to F&P’s business operations, all while working within a tight deadline, took this job to next-level status!

The Scope

Create a temporary viable workspace for the F&P team then relocate them to the new building

The project began with the demolition of half of the existing Fisher & Paykel premises so that a new purpose-built structure could be constructed on the same site. That meant our team had to decommission and relocate all of the electrics, rerunning their network around the site so that business as usual could continue.

The next phase was getting their new building live. That involved installing an 11,000v private high voltage network and connections, along with wiring the entire building. Our team took care of all the electrical needs, installing all lighting at a height of 15m, as well as their electronics, communications, data, security systems, and solar power.

Finally, we relocated the F&P team to their new 15,000sqm premises. But it wasn’t simply a case of connecting their customer service team to the data network. It also involved powering their brand new electronics workshop with state-of-the-art equipment and ensuring the entire building met Green Star standards.

The Delivery

Capacity, innovation, trust and quality workmanship

Haydn & Rollett chose to partner with DGE for this project based on our long-standing relationship of mutual trust and quality workmanship.

This complex project required significant knowledge and skill, strategic planning and comprehensive project management. As there were many other contractors on this project – such as builders and other trades – communication was paramount. This ensured each stage of the project could be completed without setbacks.

To meet each of the milestones on the project, we created a strategic execution plan to always have the right materials on hand at the right moments. This meant a careful timeline of staggered deliveries so as not to create installation or storage challenges.

In the end, our team posted some pretty impressive numbers, with over 1000 lights fitted, 50,000+ of cabling installed, and a new high voltage network.

The Outcome

Business as usual in a brand new sustainability focused premises

Experience, knowledge and careful planning ensured this project was successful within the designated timeframe. Our capabilities and expert team ensured Fisher & Paykel had their plans brought to life, all without disruption to their day-to-day business operations.

They now have the pleasure of running their operations from a Green Star quality building. Not only are their premises purpose-fitted for their specific business needs, but Fisher & Paykel are also doing their part to support sustainable business practices.

Able to make simple environmental differences like automating their lighting to eliminate energy wastage, water harvesting, and utilising solar power, F&P has a clean, green future ahead.
