In January of this year, Auckland Airport announced a major upgrade to the outbound area of its international terminal. This upgrade is part of the airport’s ambitious 30-year vision to develop a future-focussed facility providing world-class travelling experiences for a growing number of passengers. They anticipate the number of passenger movements will increase from 14 million per year in 2013, to 40 million by 2044.
The scope of the $160 million upgrade includes the landside farewell area, two anchor duty-free shops, a new passenger lounge, and a retail hub housing premium stores and eateries. It began in December 2016 and is expected to finish in early 2018. When complete, the departures area will provide a user-friendly environment that reflects New Zealand’s cultural heritage and natural beauty, while accommodating increasing numbers of travellers. The retail facilities will promote local companies and products as well as quality international brands.
The construction project is complex, as it combines the challenges of utilising part of the original 1977 terminal with building a modern expansion, all the while working around the daily operations of a busy airport. Auckland Airport has chosen Dickson-Gray Electrical (DGE) to provide all the electrical services for this expansive project, from high voltage works to lighting and power installation. This selection was based on our years of experience and proven track-record of service and performance excellence.
