Powering buildings is one thing, and it is an important part of what we do. But what truly drives us is helping power people.
Our commitment to community involvement goes far beyond the switchboard.
It’s about building long-term, meaningful relationships that create change for our people, our industry, and our communities.
One of the ways we are doing this is through our proud partnership with Ara SkillsHub, a local initiative that supports employment pathways for young people in South Auckland.
We see it as more than a collaboration. It’s a commitment to nurturing the next generation of tradie talent and investing in the future of Aotearoa.
Creating Career Pathways
Last year, we were excited to welcome Aryan Sharma and Ethan Orbell to the team. They both began their journey through the Ara SkillsHub programme. Ara provides a structured pathway for aspiring electrical apprentices to learn the skills they need to successfully transition from study to employment.
By progressing through a range of structured courses, practical assessments and on-the-job learning, apprentices are guided by experienced tutors to build confidence and learn the essential technical skills and safety practices to work in their chosen field.
While Ara takes care of the initial book learning and skill building, DGE steps in to provide guidance, encouragement, and hands-on training. Together, we helped Aryan and Ethan transition from trainees to skilled team members.
Supporting them every step of the way, our mentorship, real-world experience, and focus on personal growth mean we aren’t just building infrastructure, we are building brighter futures – and that’s what success really looks like to us!
Investing In The Future
Currently, the electrical industry is experiencing challenges in workforce development. There is a noticeable gap between the next generation of talent and the opportunities available to them. This is especially true in areas like South Auckland. We are working hard to close that gap.
By partnering with awesome initiatives like Ara SkillsHub, we can start to bridge the divide between education and employment. We can offer young people a direct, supported path to success by providing employment and training within a company that values innovation, sustainability and its people.
Our goal is a simple one. To be the kind of business and employer that leads our industry forward and helps people thrive in the process!
Community Partnerships
Sustainability has many meanings. Sure, it’s about reducing carbon footprints and protecting our Earth. To us, it’s also about sustaining a community. That’s why community partnerships are integral to us and have become a key part of our business approach.
When we invest in our local youth by prioritising training and development, we help build a sustainable community. This is beneficial for everyone involved! Talented young people get a path to success, our business is boosted by well-trained, skilled individuals, and the local community thrives.
Our involvement with Ara SkillHub not only facilitates skill building, but also connects us to a network of like-minded organisations and individuals. That means we can strengthen our relationships with other education providers, including local high schools, local iwi, and clients who share our vision for progress within our community.
Part Of Something Bigger
Everyone wants to know that they are part of something bigger than themselves. At DGE, we are more than just a collection of skilled electricians. We are a team proud to be part of a community striving for excellence in everything we do.
Yes, we pride ourselves on the complex electrical projects we successfully undertake and complete, but we also pride ourselves on our community responsibility. We know that who we employ, how we train and what we stand for matter.
When we provide eager trainees an attainable pathway to a rewarding career, we remind others within our business that they are part of something bigger. This kind of purpose-led culture is what attracts great people to DGE and keeps them growing with us.
What’s Next?
We’re not stopping here. Our work with Ara SkillsHub is part of a bigger commitment to ongoing support for our community and workforce development. We are always exploring new ways to support training and education for our people, along with developing employment pathways for those who need it most.
Our projects are often impressive in size and scope. This gives us a great opportunity to create positive change in the electrical industry, with sustainability in our delivery and business practices.
We are proud to say we power more than buildings. We are also powering people. Through partnerships like the one we have with Ara SkillsHub, we are helping to create opportunities and nurture talent.
