Asmuss Case Study
When you are working on a warehouse that can hold twice the amount of steel needed to build the Auckland Harbour Bridge, you know you are going to need some proactive planning!
Which is exactly what our team did when we took on the task of powering the new Asmuss warehouse situated in Drury, South Auckland.
Add to the mix that the project had to meet strict Green Star sustainability standards, and you have a very large job on your hands.
The Scope
Fit-out an expansive office and warehouse space
DGE were tasked with designing and implementing the interior electrics for the massive 15,000 square metre Asmuss warehouse and its accompanying state-of-the-art office.
This included everything from installing and wiring the switchboard right through to general pump wiring. Fitting out such an expansive, open space meant there were plenty of logistics to navigate, including an extensive team and four large cranes.
But the scope didn’t end there. This project had the added complexity of being Green Star standard, so we had to ensure compliance with materials, installation practices and all the electrical monitoring points necessary for a Green Star build and fit-out.
The Challenge
Meet every aspect of Green Star sustainability standards
In such an expansive space, the sheer volume of wiring and lights required could be overwhelming. But thanks to careful planning and proactive project management, our team was able to methodically work through every area of the warehouse and office.
Before beginning any physical work on the project, our team took the time to intricately understand the requirements of the job and what would be needed to meet Green Star requirements.
Not only did that encompass sourcing the right materials and sustainable installation practices, but it also extended to planning, design and implementing a whole-site power monitoring system. With our skillfully designed user interface, Asmuss can monitor all of their power use and remotely adjust their settings accordingly to ensure they are never using more energy than they need.
The Delivery
Proactive planning kept a complex job progressing consistently
You may assume that a project of this magnitude could be plagued with challenges and setbacks. But that is not the case!
As the team had a comprehensive understanding of the requirements for the job, had a carefully planned timeline to follow, and skilled project management, the project mostly ran ahead of schedule.
The Outcome
Sustainability, practicality and visibility
The end result?
A Green Star 5 compliant, state-of-the-art fitout. Asmuss were impressed with the system that we had designed for them and the capacity they had to monitor and adjust their energy use. With carefully designed lighting orientation to reduce light pollution, remote control, and the capability to utilise efficient power resources, they had a sustainable and practical electrical solution.
The project progressed steadily and was completed ahead of schedule. We ended with a high quality end product. Because the job was never rushed, it was easy to maintain a high standard of work at all times and produce an excellent solution that will serve Asmuss for many years to come.
